Troop 818 will be traveling to Bulldog Canyon (near Apache Junction, AZ) and doing some basic repelling and climbing under the supervision of a BSA registered Level 3 climbing instructor.
Departure: Friday, January 15th at 5:00pm from Saint Bernadette Catholic Church
Return: Sunday, January 17th between 11:00am-2:00pm (we will call when we are 30 minutes away)
Camping: The Scouts will be camping in a dispersed camping area and will be “car camping style”. The Scout Patrols will have their Patrol Boxes (cooking gear) and will sleep in tents with their patrol members.
The Scout Patrols will organize their tent buddies and meal plan.
Meal Planning:
- Friday Dinner = each Scout should plan their own brown bag dinner
- Saturday Breakfast = Patrol’s Organize
- Saturday Lunch = Scout’s plan individual trail lunch to eat
- Saturday Dinner = Patrol’s Organize)
- Sunday Breakfast = Patrol’s Organize
Gear (things to remember):
- Tent (Scouts will be sharing tents with a tent buddy)
- Sleeping Bag
- Daypack for hiking
- Hiking shoes
- Warm clothes (watch the weather, the forecast is a low of 40 and a high of 60)
- Water Container (preferably Nalgene) – no water at campsite
- Mess Kit (no paper or plastic plates, forks, etc)
- Sleeping pad, if you want one
Activities/Plan: On Saturday morning, the Scouts will be dividing into groups and will be repelling and climbing under the supervision and instruction of a Level 3 BSA Climbing Specialist.
Other Notes:
- There is no firewood at the campsite, so plan to bring some
- There is no water at the campsite, so plan to bring plenty
- There is no facilities at the campsite, so plan accordingly and bring items for “cat holes”
Scout Cost:
- $30.00 per Scout (+ reimburse your Grubmaster for Patrol Food), this includes gas reimbursement and $20.00 per Scout for Equipment Fee.
