Sunday, June 25th – Saturday, July 1st

Troop 818 is beating the heat and heading to Camp Raymond for summer camp where the days are pleasant and the nights are cool.  Camp Raymond is 30 miles from Flagstaff in the ponderosa pines with incredible views of the San Francisco Peaks.  Scouts will enjoy a variety of Merit Badge opportunities such as lifesaving, canoeing, first aid, rifle shooting, archery, woodcarving, rappelling (C.O.P.E.), metal working, swimming, camping, cooking, astronomy and much, much more.  There is a trail begins program for new scouts as well.  Please check out the Camp Raymond video for a tour of the camp.

Scouts Bring Tents to Share

This year, Scouts will bring their own tents to share.  Scouts should have made tent-buddy arrangements within their patrols.  The tents should be at least 8’ x 8’.  No backpack tents.  This will provide ample room for cots and accommodate standing.

Dates & Travel Information

Pack Check: On Friday, June 23rd at 7:00 PM.  The Patrols will be conducting a pack check at St. Bernadette’s to make sure all patrol members are suitably equipped.

Rally & Departure: Scouts will rally at the St. Bernadette’s at 10:00 on Sunday, June 25th and depart at 10:30 AM sharp.  Scouts, please be mindful that mass starts at 10:00 AM, so we want to be respectful.

Stopping for Lunch: Drivers will stop for lunch in Flagstaff, so Scouts should bring some cash for lunch or a sack lunch.  The troop will arrive in Camp about 2:00 PM

Travel in Uniform: As always, Scouts will travel in Full Field Uniform (Class A) without neckerchiefs.

Saturday Return: The Troop will depart from Camp Saturday morning about 9:00 AM and return to St. Bernadette’s at approximately 12:00 PM.

Packing for Camp:

Look under Resources for the  Camp Equipment List.

Signing Up for Merit Badges:

The Scouts will sign up for merit badges on Monday at camp, but they should already have a good idea of their schedule.  Refer to the Merit Badge section under Resources for the 2017 Camp Raymond Merit Badge List

Dining Hall & Trading Post:

Scouts should not bring food to camp.  There’s a great dining hall which will be open starting Monday for lunch.  The adult leaders will organize burgers and dogs for the troop Sunday night and bagels and oatmeal for breakfast on Monday.  We want to avoid food in tents to eliminate a food source for critters.  There’s a trading post.  Scouts are encouraged to bring cash for the store but no more than $50.

Swim Check & Service Project

Sunday afternoon, the Scouts will complete the BSA Swim Check and complete a service project to benefit the camp.

Phones & Emergency Contact

The SPL has requested that scouts leave phones secured in the adult leader’s vehicle.  Scouts are welcome to use technology on the road traveling to and from camp, but experience from previous camps has demonstrated that phones are a distraction.  The scoutmaster will send his personal contact information to parents via email; please call in the event there is a family emergency.  The emergency contact phone number for Camp Raymond is (928) 635-9891.

Mail

Mail call will be on Friday only.  To mail a letter to scouts:

Camp Rules

Camp Raymond and Troop 818 operate under the principles Scout Oath and Law.  Scouts are young men, and there’s a fair amount of latitude granted by the Senior Patrol Leader and Scoutmaster for silliness.  But serious problems will result in parents being called to retrieve their scout.
