Description:
The December outing will be rappelling at the Heard Scout Pueblo. A trained Level II instructor will lead this event and provide all the climbing gear required. Your first preparation step is to learn how to correctly spell rappelling. It is spelled with two p’s and 2 l’s with only one a and one e!

We’ll be rappelling in the canyon behind the Stone Lodge during the day and backpacking to remote campsite #2 for Saturday night. This will be a great backpack outing if it is your first one. The distance is very short and will help you flush out your gear and what to pack.

Required Gear:
Daytime – Day pack with water, long pants, sturdy closed toe shoes, sun hat, sunglasses, sun screen on your skin. Activity uniforms (aka Scout T-shirt) for rappelling. Wear your activity uniform under your scout uniform for travel.

Backpack overnight – Overnight temps ~ 50 deg. Pack according to the latest weather forecast. You will need a sleeping bag, tent with tent buddy, backpack, jacket, beanie hat, clean socks and underclothes, snacks, mini-bear proof food container or rope to hang patrol food if trees are available. No water is available at campsite 2. Plan accordingly. See attached map of Heard Pueblo.

Patrol Food – Patrols need to plan for Sat Lunch and Dinner (at remote campsite 2), and Sunday breakfast.
