You will follow Arizona State Highway 186 for 32 miles to the junction of Arizona State Highway 181. Turn left and 4 miles later you will be at the Chiricahua entrance station. The turn off for S. Pinery Canyon is the last right prior to the entrance to the National Park. The Disperse Campgrounds are several miles down the road.
Obtain gas in Willcox; gasoline is not available at or near the monument.
MEAL PLANNING:
Friday Dinner – the drivers will be stopping in Tucson for dinner, so Scouts can bring money for dinner or pack a dinner to eat.
Saturday Breakfast – Scouts will eat by Patrol, breakfast will be “no cook” to aid in departure time for hike, for example Bagels, dry cereal bars, fruit, etc.
Saturday Lunch – Scouts should pack individual trail lunch for themselves as they will be eating on the hike, be sure to pack your lunch in something waterproof and be prepared to “pack in and pack out” everything. Also plan to bring plenty of water. There is no water at the campsite, but there is water in the National Park
Saturday Dinner – Scouts will eat by Patrol, a good dinner meal.
Sunday Breakfast – same as Saturday Breakfast, “no cook” as Scouts will be departing early and quickly for the return to Phoenix
MEALPLAN SUMMARY:
Patrols / Patrol Grubmaster should be coordinating 3 “no cook” breakfasts and 1 glorious dinner.
Each Scout should have money or planned vehicle food for Friday Dinner, plus 1 hiking/trail lunches for Saturday. Scouts should also have enough nutritious snacks for the hike to maintain their energy.
SPECIAL GEAR / GEAR NOTES:
Scouts should be mindful that gear space is limited and that we are staying in a dispersed campground with no water or restroom. Scouts should pack and prepare for this outing as they have prior outings, with the following notes:
- Extensive day hike – bring day pack, water, 10 essentials, snacks, lunch, etc. Be prepared for cooler mornings and warm afternoons on hike and have appropriate shoes.
2. Troop Uniform is a must for travel days and our religious ceremony.
