Miles Trailhead AreaDue to the undesirable weather forecasts for Northern Arizona this weekend and the Scout Patrol discussions at Monday’s Troop Meeting, it has been decided to change this weekend’s Outing to the eastern side of the Superstition Mountains at Miles Trailhead, near Kennedy Ranch.

The weather may still be wet, but we will most likely avoid the Thunderstorms, Freezing Rain and Light Snow.   Scouts should definitely be prepared for wet and cooler weather.

At the meeting the Scouts were organized into 3 Patrols for this Outing (Alpha, Beta and Charlie).

GENERAL OUTING PLAN:

Depart from Saint Bernadette’s Church on Friday at 5:00pm (so plan to be there before 5:00pm to check in and get organized).

Drive to Globe / Superior, Arizona and stop for dinner or eat a dinner the Scouts brought with them.  After dinner we will head to the Miles Trailhead and camping area, to set up our camp.

Saturday morning, we will cook breakfast (by Patrols) in the campsite, break into hiking groups and the Scouts will determine the Hiking Plans

Saturday Lunch will be on the trail, each Scout should plan and have their own lunch along with water and appropriate trail nutrition.

Saturday Dinner (by Patrols) will be back at the Campsite.  If allowed we will have a campfire Saturday evening.

Sunday morning, we will cook breakfast (by Patrols), pack up our Campsite, do a Scout’s Own Service, then drive back to the Church (ETA is 12:00 to 1:00pm)

A very good topographical map of the area and trails can be downloaded at http://www.superstition-sar.org/downloads/haunted_canyon.pdf

WHAT TO PACK:

Gas fee is $10 per Scout and they should reimburse their grubmaster for the Patrol Food cost, based on their meal plan. Also Scouts should have some money for Friday Dinner in Globe, AZ if they are not planning to pack a dinner.

Scouts should pack like this is a “car campout”, the Patrol Boxes will be brought for Patrol Equipment and Cooking Items.

Scouts should plan for rain and have appropriate gear.  We may be hiking in the rain, a daypack type of set up is appropriate.
